Version 2.0 installation issues

First, SHAPING San Francisco, version 2, was created in the spring of 2000. It works with Win95, Win98, Win2000 and Win NT 4.0, BUT IT DOES NOT WORK with WINDOWS XP or any version of MacIntosh!

We offer free technical support for Shaping San Francisco. A lot of the problems associated with installing and running Shaping San Francisco are rooted in the instability of the Windows platform, the fact that every Windows machine is just a little bit different than the next one. We are happy to help you adjust your machine to run our program well. It is not hard, and probably will improve the operation of your machine in general.

Shaping San Francisco 2.0 was created before Windows 98 or Windows 2000 were widely adopted, and long before Windows XP appeared (Microsoft is to blame for making Windows incompatible with our older application). You are advised NOT to install our version of Microsoft Agent, which our installation utility will prompt you to do at the end of the process. It is an earlier version of a program (“msagent.exe”) which is integrated into the Operating System of Win98 and W2000.

We've discovered that our program is not always properly installing the agent characters, which can lead to a small cluster of error messages when you launch Shaping SF the first time. The solution is to install the characters by hand, a simple task.

First find the directory called \agents under \ssf. There are two files ending in .acs (chblug3.acs and billdlr1.acs) which you should copy to your machine under \windows\msagent\chars.

Lastly check the file under \ssf\toolbk called ssf.ini. There should be a line at the end of it that says neverUseAgent=false. If it says true change it to false. When you restart Shaping SF, the previous errors should be resolved.

It's possible that the fonts did not get copied to your directory called \windows\fonts. If so, hand copy them from our fonts directory.
